Biography
Dr. Dragan M. Nikolic has completed his Ph.D. in 2010 from Medical Faculty, University of Belgrade. He is Head of researches in the laboratory for pancreatic islets culture at the Institute for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Diseases, KCS, Serbia. 1998 – Magisterijum of Science degree of Immunobiology sciences, University of Belgrade, Faculty of Biology. He is the member of research projects related with isolation and transplatation of pancreatic islets. Member of EASD (European Association for the Study of Diabetes) in 2009 god. Member Organization Commity of Serbian Society for the Study of Diabetes since 2010. Member of Association of University Proffesors, Serbia, since 2012. Editorial board member and reviewer of many international scientific journals. After many years of research of pancreatic infection and influence of microbiological agens on insulin secretion of pancreatic islets, Dr. Nikolic has presented new data that could be important factors in pathogenesis of diabetes. It was established that certain bacteria and fungi could penetrate the pancreas thus directly influencing on insulin secretion, or indirectly, by secreting certain metabolites which via blood get into pancreas, leading to insulin resistance and glucose intolerance, and finally to diabetes. These findings will be important for the future prevention and monitoring of the patients with high risk for developing diabetes. Dr Nikolic he has published papers dealing with Diabetes, insulin secretion, transplantation, pancreatic islets culture and influence of microorganism on onset of the diabetes.
Research Interest

Biography
PhD in Molecular Biology and PhD Prize in Science at Autonomous University, Madrid. During her scientific career, she has studied the molecular biology of several respiratory viruses of clinical significance as Influenza virus, SARS-CoV and other coronaviruses. She has worked on virus reverse genetics, functional analysis of viral and cellular proteins, molecular diagnosis of virus in clinical samples and on animal models to study viral pathogenesis. Her current research line is focused not only on the virus, but on the infected patient, and the role the contribution of virulence determinants and the patient play in the progression of the infection. To carry out these studies, she has stayed in several national and international research Centers and has collaborated with international groups and Health Institutions (Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York, USA; Center for Diseases Control, CDC, Atlanta, USA; Center for Arrhythmia Research, Michigan USA; Institute of Health Carlos III, Madrid, Severo Ochoa Hospital, Madrid, Research Foundation at General Hospital, Valencia, others). She is developing and coordinating an international multidisciplinary project including physicians, cardiologists, microbiologists, molecular virologists and bioinformatics. She is Reviewer for several scientific journals and has trained several PhD and Master students.
Research Interest
Her research interests is in the study of respiratory virus and emerging viruses of clinical significance and the role that human genetics plays in the disease outcome.
